Kamehameha Day Festivities on Maui
Today is Kamehameha Day.
The Lahaina Restoration Foundation is hosting a free Kamehameha Day Celebration in West Maui at the Historic Baldwin Museum from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 11, 2019.
The Royal Order of Kamehameha I – Kahekili Chapter IV on Maui commemorates the life of Kamehameha the Great in a procession in Kahului this morning. The event honors Kamehameha the Great who is credited with the unification of islands under one rule.
A separate, celebratory, Pa’u Parade and Ho’olaulea honoring the Kamehameha line will take place this weekend in West Maui.
The event starts with a soft opening on Friday during the Lahaina 2nd Friday night event from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at various businesses along Front Street.
The event officially kicks off on Saturday, June 15th with Nā Kamehameha Commemorative Pāʻū Parade starting at 9:45 a.m. along Front Street. The weekend continues under the Lahaina Banyan Tree with free keiki activities, lei making, Maui made crafters, Hawaiian music and hula from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16.
The event is free and open to the public.
