Maui United Way Names Nicholas Winfrey President and CPO
Maui United Way announced that its board of directors has selected Nicholas Winfrey as President and Chief Professional Officer.
“We are fortunate to have someone of Nicholas Winfrey’s caliber and experience step up to lead Maui United Way,” said Mark Fornwall, Interim Board Chair. “He is a strong communicator with deep leadership capabilities.”
Winfrey said, “I am honored and excited to lead Maui United Way as it seeks to address Maui County’s most vital needs. I believe Maui United Way matters – and I look forward to serving the community in my new role.”
Winfrey will be replacing Kari Nunokawa who has held the position for the past two years. Organization leaders say she was instrumental in refining programs and services for the agency.
Speaking on behalf of the board, Fornwall said, “We very much appreciate Kari’s efforts and her service to Maui United Way. The board believes that Nicholas Winfrey has the right operational and communication skills as well as leadership abilities to continue building on the strong foundation that she leaves behind.”
Nicholas became the new President and Chief Professional Officer on June 17, 2019.
He was most recently employed by the Australian Red Cross as its Philanthropy Strategy and Relationship manager, managing a $5.5 million dollar portfolio for all major donors and prospects. Prior to that he served as the Vice-President of Planning and Development for the Rancho Coastal Humane Society in California. Winfrey brings key attributes associated with strategic planning, donor relations and relationship management.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Human Communication from Arizona State University.
