January 4, 1971 – June 25, 2019

Dawn Kinores

Dawn Chiemi-Inouye Kinores, 48, of Makawao passed away on June 25, 2019 under the care of Hospice Maui. She was born on January 4, 1971 in Wailuku.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading mystery novels, and watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel.

Dawn is survived by her husband, Kenneth Kinores; mother, Patricia “Carol” Lopez; grandma, Stella Lopez; brothers, Kevin (Aimee) Inouye, Shane (Jenna) Inouye, Chris (Jeannie) Lopez, Carlton “Koa” (Michelle) Lopez; her loving fur baby, Bandit; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her father, Alvin Inouye and step-father, Christopher Lopez.

A memorial service will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Ballard Family Mortuary on Saturday, July 13, 2019. Eulogy will begin at 9:45 a.m. with service to follow at 10 a.m. The family requests no flowers please.

Patsy Yasui
September 8, 1926 – June 23, 2019

Patsy Yasui

Patsy Tsuyako Yasui, 92, of Kahului passed away on June 23, 2019 at her residence. She was born on September 8, 1926 to the late Takeyuki and Chiyo Yoshizu.

Patsy loved to cook, sew, crochet, “Bunka” (Japanese embroidery) and spend as much time as she could with her family. She went camping, going to the beach to hukinet, traveling and attended many athletic games and school activities of her grandchildren. She also loved to watch any John Wayne or Hugh Jackman movies.

Patsy will always be remembered for her loving kindness, inner strength, the twinkle in her eyes and beautiful smile.

Patsy is survived by her daughters, Dale Agena and Ann(Harry) Kochi; siblings Emiko(Yoshiharu) Nakamura, Michio (Reiko) Yoshizu, Reiko (George-deceased) Kondo, Joyce (Richard) Mitsumori, Gerrie (Wallace) Matsuda; grandchildren Jake (Kellee) Yasui, Jorden (Darcy) Yasui, Kanani Yasui, Ryan (Tara) Agena, Heidi (Royle) Taogoshi, Hersha( Ali) Ramos, Harry Kochi, Jr, Anson (Alisa) Kochi, Michael (Marissa) Kochi and 9 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ricki Yasui, son, Jonathan Yasui and sister, Michie Takayama.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday July, 13, 2019 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului. Services will begin at 5 p.m. Inurnment of Ricki and Patsy will follow on July 15, 2019 at the Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao at 9:00 am.

The family would like to thank the staff of Roselani Place Aloha Gardens for their wonderful care of Patsy these past years and Hospice Maui for their compassionate and excellent service.

Hannah Emma Ha’i Brown, 19, of Wailuku, passed away on June 23, 2019 in Kahului. She was born on November 29, 1999 in Wailuku.

Hannah was a Customer Service Representative at Allstate Insurance Company.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Paia Protestant Church, service will begin at 7 p.m. Cremation will follow. Scattering of ashes with a luncheon to follow will be held at 12 noon on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Kanaha Beach Park – Lae’ula O Kai Canoe Hale.

Hannah is survived by her parents, Everett and Charlene Brown; brothers, Sketch and Sheriff Brown; grandparents, Roy Brown and Josephine Brown – deceased (Bill Miguel); Charles (Joyce) Beck and Inez Graves; tutu, Dagmar Kane; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

 

Arlene Shinagawa
April 17, 1943 – June 22, 2019

Arlene Kushi Shinagawa

Arlene Kushi Shinagawa, 76, of Wailuku, passed away on June 22, 2019 at her residence under the care of Hospice Maui. She was born on April 17, 1943 in Poston, Arizona. Arlene was a registered nurse for Maui Medical Group. Visitation will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Ballard Family Mortuary, memorial service will begin at 9:30 a.m., reception to follow.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Riky Shinagawa; daughter, Sara Shinagawa; sisters, Virginia (Dennis) Miyahira, Kathleen (Ted) Yamamura, Linda (Guy) Sugino, and Lisa (Mitchell) Nishimoto; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge Hospice Maui for their compassionate care of Arlene.

 

Wayne “Burgie” Hamamura
October 5, 1945 – June 22, 2019

Wayne “Burgie” Hamamura, 73, passed away June 22, 2019. Wayne was born on October 5, 1945 and was the retired owner of A-1 Travel Services.

He is survived by his wife Yoko, daughter Dana (Steve Barfknecht), son Dale (Jihye), and grandchildren Lia, Cody, Kaila. He is also survived by brothers Dennis (Marilyn) and Dwight (Gwen) Hamamura.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 2nd at Iao Congregational Church, visitation 4 p.m., service 5 p.m.

 

Don Lorenzo
October 15, 1966 – June 16, 2019

Don Kaimana Lorenzo, 52, of Honoka`a, passed away on June 16, 2019 at the Hilo Medical Center. He was born on October 15, 1966. He was a chef and self-employed landscaper.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 45-3259 Mamalahoa Hwy, Honoka`a, Hawaii 96727 at 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Viewing will be from 8:30 am -10:00 am. Celebration of Life will be held on October 19, 2019.

Don is survived by partner Christine Leblond of Waimea, HI; hanai sons Isaiah (Kaila) Batalona-Paiva, Kaily Lorenzo, Austin Bannister, Cody Fernandez, Cecil Rodrigues, Jeremiah Kaholoa`a, etc of Honokaa, HI; hanai daughters Anna Batalona, Jammie (Anu) Demello, Jarrie McGivern, Jessika (Will) Nansen, Kiara Rodrigues, Iyana Batalona-Paiva of Honoka`a, HI; brothers Jerry (Momi) Lorenzo, Daryl Lorenzo of Honoka`a, HI; sisters Donna Asia, Lisa (Al) Lorenzo of Honoka`a, HI, Tina Lorenzo of New York.

Samuel Kaomi Akina, 74, of Hilo, passed away on June 16, 2019 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on March 21, 1945 on Oahu. He was a heavy equipment operator with Local 3 Operating Engineers.

Hilo services to be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Ballard Family Mortuary Hilo, 570 Kinoole Street, Hilo, HI 96720. Viewing at 2:30pm, Service at 3:00pm.

Oahu services to be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Laie North Stake Center, 55-103 Lanihuli Street, Laie, HI 96762. Visitation at 10:00am, Service at 11:00am.

Samuel is survived by spouse Wilhelmina Leinaala “Billie” Akina of Hilo; mother Dora K Akina of Oahu; hanai son Lawrence Akina of Oahu, Daniel Dayoan of Hilo, step sons Paul Day, Jacob Magarro, Walter Aipa, Dino Akina, Buddy Kamakeaina all of Oahu; daughter CharLee (Kealii) Akina of Oahu, step daughters Paula Young, Leo Santiago, Chong Akina, Noe Noe Akina all of Oahu; brothers John (Christina) Akina of California, Nephi (Debbie) Akina of Hilo, Brian Akina of Oahu; sisters Clarice (Richard) Stick of California, Priscilla (Jeffery) Jong of Oahu, Mayette (Kosena) Funoi Moana of Oahu. Gordon Hunter Kauhiokalani Poire Jr.
January 23, 1947 – June 14, 2019

Gordon Poire

Gordon Hunter Kauhiokalani “Boy” Poire, Jr., died on June 14, 2019 at his home in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. He was born on January 23, 1947 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a retired goldsmith, the sole proprietor of the jewelry store “Gordon the Jeweler” for over 40 years. He previously worked at the old Kona Surf, the Ilikai Hotel, and KGMB Studios. He was a member of the Kona Masonic Lodge F. & A.M., Aloha Shriners, Royal Order of Jesters, Scottish Rite, and Kona Coast Barley Boys.

He is proceeded in death by father Gordon Poire, Sr., mother Napua Stevens Poire, and sister Keahi Allen.

He is survived by wife Edy Gesaman-Poire of Kailua Kona; daughter Elizabeth “Napua” Poire of Kailua Kona; brother Scott Stevens-Poire of Hawaii Kai; brother-in-law Bill (Carol) Gesaman of Waterford, MI; sisters-in-law Betsy (Rick) Grossnickle of White Lake, MI and Barbara (Kent) Land of Waterford, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. And two cats, Jeannie and Chewie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hulihee Palace in Kailua Kona on July 27, 2019, from 2-5 pm. Aloha wear is requested.

 

George Arcangel
April 25, 1940 – June 12, 2019

George Arcangel

George Cruz Arcangel 79, Our loving father, papa, brother and friend, had peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 12th, 2019 at the age of 79. He was born in Puukolii, Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii on April 25th, 1940 to the late Julian Arcangel & Bernadina Dela Cruz.

He had dedicated 18 years to serve our country with the U.S Army. Although he is no longer here, he will continue to live in the hearts of his sons, George Arcangel, John Arcangel; daughters, Georgiana Arcangel, Leona “Lee” Arcangel, Francine “Fran” Arcangel, Donna Marie (Reggie) Medeiros; brothers, Ben Arcangel, Adriano Arcangel, Julian Arcangel; sisters, Mary (Tom)Pangilinan ., Angie (Robert) Jones; 17 grandchildren, Kyle Nagata, Ty Nagata, Dillon Nagata, Sasha Tanaka, Bully Rodrigues, Chelsey Rittmeister, Sergio Jaimes Vigaray, Bradley Jaimes Vigaray, Mason Jaimes Vigaray, Michaela Arcangel-Oura, Kamaile Medeiros, Ashley Ann Oliveira, Alia Arcangel, Aaron Arcangel, Jovy Kemfort, Tristian Arcangel, Kierra “Kanoe” Arcangel, and 24 great-grandchildren.

He is together now with his parents, Julian & Bernardina Arcangel; siblings, David Arcangel, Joseph Arcangel, Leo Arcangel, Annie Bolor and Florence Montero and former wife, Francisca “Rose” Arcangel.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Norman’s Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. with service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao at 11:00 a.m.

The family of George Cruz Arcangel would like to express a heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Barborach, Dr. Powell, to the nurses on 3rd floor at Kula Hospital and to Dr.Scott for their compassionate care during his time here. Also a big thank you to JBoy Arcangel and ohana, Lastly Raquel Lara-Cruz for all your help.

 

Ann Poouahi
November 20, 1930 – June 11, 2019

Ann Pooauhi

Ann E. Poouahi, 88 of Wailuku, Maui passed away on June 11, 2019 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on November 20, 1930.

Ann worked at Hale Makua for many years and later retired as a bus transportation aide at MEO.

Ann is predeceased by her parents Manuel and Mary Freitas; husband, Charles K. Poouahi Sr.; son, Charles K. Poouahi Jr.; brothers, Raymond Freitas, Walter Freitas. Ann is survived by her son, Calvin R. Poouahi (Yolanda (Mei-Ling)); daughter, Sheila A. Mitsumura (Michael); 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brothers, Manuel (Lei) Freitas Jr., Patrick (Norma) Freitas (Maui); sister, Irene Spykhoven (Alaska); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family; and all her loving friends.

Ann was a very loving mom, grandma, and great grandma. Spending time with her family was most important. In her free time, Ann loved to crochet and tend to her many beautiful orchids.

Services will be held at Norman’s Mortuary on Saturday, July 13, 2019. Viewing to begin at 9:00 a.m. with services to be held at 10:30 a.m. Lunch to follow after concluding services. Burial to follow at Maui Memorial Park in Wailuku at 2:00 p.m.

Ann’s family would like to thank the staff at the Hale Makua Wailuku, especially to the staff of the Molokai Unit and the many friends that she made there. Thank you also to the staff at Maui Memorial Medical Center for the care that she received.

 

Darlene Lois Boteilho
January 5, 1965 – June 5, 2019

Darlene Boteilho, 54, of Kahului passed away on June 5, 2019. She was born on January 5, 1965.

Darlene is survived by her son, Joseph Paul Perreira-Boteilho; brother, Wayne Boteilho; a niece and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Alvin and Violet Boteilho; brother, Russell Boteilho; and sister, Debbie Boteilho.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Faith in Jesus church, with visitation from 9:30-11am; services will begin at 11 am. A private scattering will be held.

 

Jessie Stacy
September 26, 1980 – June 2, 2019

Jessie Stacy

Jessie Lee Stacy died on June 2, 2019 at Queens Medical Center, Oahu. He was born on September 26, 1980 in California. He worked as a carpenter.

He is survived by wife Sharian; sons Braxton Montero of Anchorage, Alaska; Patrick Montero of Hilo, Hawaii; daughter Aiko Stacy of Waikoloa; parents Leonard and Vickie Stacy of Amboy, Washington; brother Gordon (Alisha) Stacy of Oregon; one grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary Hilo at 9:00 on Saturday, July 6, 2019, with light refreshments to follow. Another Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
