VIDEO/PHOTOS: Maui Firefighters Battle Weekend Brush Fires

Maui firefighters battled two West Maui Brush fires over the holiday weekend. One was reported Sunday afternoon in Kahakuloa. The fire came within 30-feet of an existing structure, but was brought under control and contained at 2 acres. A separate fire on Monday afternoon burned an area of brush in Puamana.  The brush fire did not result in any damages or impacts to traffic.

Maui firefighters remain on the scene of a 2-acre brush fire, in Kahakuloa.  The fire was first reported at 12:20 p.m. on

Sunday, May 29, 2011.

The fire was contained as of 1:45 p.m., according to Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.  The blaze came within 30 feet of an existing structure, but did not cause any damages.  The brush fire was burning mauka of the road, and on the Wailuku side of the bridge.

Responding to the scene were crews from Engine 11, Mini 11, Mini 1, Tanker 10 and Air One.  By 2:20 p.m., crews remained on scene, but the air support was released.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
