Paid Positions Still Available for Conservation Internship on Maui

The application deadline has been extended for three positions for Nā Hua Hoʻohuli i ka Pono’s Hoʻoilo 2019-2020 term. Nā Hua Hoʻohuli i ka Pono is a paid service-learning program designed to help develop Maui’s next generation of conservation leaders.

Host agencies for the available positions are the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project and Maui Nui Botanical Gardens. There is also a Conservation Leader Assistant Position available where the member will participate with the previously mentioned host agencies along with The Nature Conservancy and DLNR-DOFAW. They will also assist program staff in outreach efforts and curating program workshops to learn how to run a quality environmental education program from a coordination perspective.

The Hoʻoilo 2019-2020 term will be 19 hours per week from Oct. 14, 2019 to June 6, 2019. Participants will be paid a bi-weekly living allowance of $475 and are eligible to earn two AmeriCorps Education Awards’s totaling $2,579 to apply toward higher education costs or student loans. Applicants do not need to be currently enrolled in college to participate in the program.

Applicants will be selected through a competitive process which includes a formal application, criminal history check, and interview. Members are responsible for their own transportation and housing accommodations. Completed applications and all required documents must be received by 12 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2019.
