Interruption of Electric Service to Parts of Waikapū-Wailuku, Aug. 7

Maui Electric Company is asking about 500 customers in parts of Waikapū and Wailuku to prepare for a scheduled outage on Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 10 p.m. to midnight. Company representatives say that for safety reasons, electrical power must be interrupted for crews to make urgent repairs to a broken power line in the Waikapū area along Honoapiʻilani Highway.

Affected customers are being directly contacted and include those along Honoapiʻilani Highway, between mile marker 1.5 to 3, as well as parts of East and West Waikō Road; Honua Place; Huihui Place; Keilio Place; Kemoa Place; Kilohi Street; Leihuapueo Place; Nukuna Place; Nuna Place; Oia Way; Olo Place; Pilikana Street; Wilikona Place; Old Waikapū Road; Waikea Road; Waiolani and Waiolani ʻElua Subdivision including ʻIlikupono Street, Kawika Place, Kawika Street, Hoʻolako Place, Kama Street, East Keapua, East Kanawai, Hoʻokahewai Drive, Pilihana Place, Moʻohele Street, and Pilikana Street; and Waiolani Mauka Subdivision, including Moʻolu Street, Koani Loop, Moʻolu Circle, and Papaiaulu Place.

Drivers are asked to proceed with caution in these affected areas during this time as traffic signals may also be impacted.

Crews will be repairing a power line that broke around 11:55 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 and caused approximately 4,000 customers in parts of Wailuku, Waikapū, Kūʻau and Spreckelsville to experience an outage. Power was restored to all customers by 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday. The cause of the line breaking is being assessed.

Maui Electric thanks the affected customers and public for their continued patience during this scheduled outage as crews safely work as quickly as possible. The company also recommends affected customers charge any necessary electronics and turn off sensitive electronic equipment before the scheduled outage.
