Application Deadline for Marine Science Internship Approaching
The deadline to submit an application for the Maui Ocean Center Marine Instituteʻs internship program is Aug. 30 at 5 p.m.
The program aims to mentor college-level students who are interested in pursuing a career in marine science.
Below is a list and description of the different internships available:
Coral Reef Conservation: Students will engage in a variety of coral reef conservation and restoration activities, including coral husbandry and identification. The interns will also apply field research methods to assess coral cover, abundance, and health.
Fishing Line Recycling Program: Participants will conduct qualitative surveys with recreational fishers, monitor sites, collect data, and complete research projects for the Fishing Line Recycling Program.
Education and Outreach: Under the direction of MOCMI biologists, students will assist with educating guests at the MOCMI informational kiosk, as well as facilitating educational and community outreach programs.
Marine Debris: This internship includes beach and reef cleanups, as well as research projects related to pollution prevention. Students will develop and implement a personal research project, collect and record data, and assist with various pollution prevention initiatives.
