Hawaiʻi Event Focuses on Preparedness for Catastrophic Incidents
Government officials convened on Tuesday to discuss how Hawaiʻi can better prepare for and recover from catastrophic incidents that impact the stateʻs ability to provide goods and services.
Lt. Gov. Josh Green hosted the inaugural Hawaiʻi Maritime Regional Resiliency Assessment Program, which brought in a full conference room at the state capitol yesterday.
During the meeting, representatives from the Department of Homeland Security briefed the group on alternative locations to the Port of Honolulu, identifying Barbers Point and Pearl Harbor as the two most viable port options for Oʻahu.
The representatives also explained the lessons the department learned from past disruptions to major ports.
Green plans to continue to facilitate informational briefings and planning sessions with the goal of implantation activates in 18 months, according to a press release.
