A lottery drawing was recently held for applications of the Kahului Lani Phase I, senior affordable rental complex on Maui. More than 400 applications were received during August 12 and 30, 2019. The target move-in date is February 2020.

Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation (CCHDC), Catholic Charities Hawai‘i and Hale Mahaolu conducted the lottery drawing.
Developed by CCHDC, the first phase of Kahului Lani will include a six-story building with 81 one-bedroom/one-bathroom units and one Manager’s unit. The project will provide low-income seniors ages 55 and over with an affordable permanent living option, offering complementary amenities so residents can “age in place.”
The project is located directly across the street from Foodland at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center in Kahului.
“With Kahului Lani, Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation is proud to play a role in filling the critical need for affordable senior housing, especially on Maui, where it is desperately needed,” said CCHDC President Rick Stack.
The future second phase of the Kahului Lani housing project will include a six-story building with 83 units and a two-story multi-purpose building. The multi-purpose facility will include offices for Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi to provide on-site case management services and programs for residents.
Incorporated in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operating as a subsidiary of Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi, CCHDC owns, develops, and manages real estate properties with the intent to provide affordable housing for the elderly, special needs individuals and other socially or economically disadvantaged persons and families.
Danie-lyn Oliveira, Hale Mahaolu Compliance Coordinator and Lease Up Team Lead said, “Hale Mahaolu is very happy with the response. We had 750 applications picked up and over 400 returned. Applicants were excited for the opportunity and spoke very favorably of the location.”
Hale Mahaolu is now preparing applications for eligibility review. All applicants will receive written correspondence advising of their lottery number assignment and next steps. Applicants can expect to receive their letters by the end of September.
