Robyn Naeole

Robyn Naeole

March 8, 1955 – September 15, 2019

Robyn Joanne Naeʻole of Hāʻikū, Maui, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 15, 2019. She was born on March 08, 1955, in Wailuku, Maui.

Robyn was last employed as a leasing officer for Hale Makana o Waiale in Wailuku, prior to enjoying her early retirement.

She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph Naeʻole and Carmen Carbonell Singson and is survived by her son, Ryan James Kamakakēhau Fernandez; Partner Pamela Leilani “Aunty Spam” Bergau; siblings Clifford James Naeʻole (April), Rochelle Marie Naeʻole Adams (Derrick), Leihua Naeʻole, and Joseph Kalani Naeʻole (Jahanna); along with many other friends and family that surrounded her with love.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Oct. 26, 2019, at the ʻOhanaʻs Waiʻehu Beach home (421 Waiʻehu Beach Road), starting at noon.

Emily Kalua Akiona Wendt

April 7, 1925 – September 13, 2019

Emily Kalua Akiona Wendt, 94 of Kahului, Maui passed away peacefully on Sept. 13, 2019 at her home surrounded by loving family. She was born on April 07, 1925 in Hāna, Maui to the late James and Ellen Akiona. She was raised in Wailuanui, Maui.

Emily is the second oldest of nine siblings. She is predeceased by her husband, Donald E. Wendt. Emily is survived by her children, Lloyd Akiona (Surficia), Norma Wendt Trimming (John), Edward Wendt (Mahealani), Carl Wendt (Donna), Karen Wendt Nelson (Christopher); 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Her Career included being a telephone operator, nurse’s assistant at Kula Hospital, and retired as a forelady with over 30 years of service at Maui Land and Pineapple.

Darryl Ellis

Darryl Ellis

September 4, 1960 – September 7, 2019

Darryl was born on Sept. 4, 1960 and passed away on Sept. 7, 2019 at the age of 59.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Means- Ellis; mother Jackie Lee; son Gregory Ellis; stepchildren Kamal Pfeifle, Kareem (Beamer) Pfeifle, Tahira Pfeifle, Tracey and Charles Robinson; grandchildren Oliver Ellis, step grandchildren Brittany Wildermuth, Heaven and Destiny Robinson, Lawaia Pfeifle.

He served in the US Navy for 8 years as a cook and was medically discharged at age 28 with Multiple sclerosis. He served as an usher at Kings Cathedral Church.

Rose Takaki

Rose Takaki

March 19, 1928 – September 5, 2019

Rose I. Takaki, 91 of Wailuku, Maui passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 5, 2019. She was born Sadako Ino on March 19, 1928 in Wailuku, Maui to the late Masaichi and Misayo Ino.

Rose is survived by her sons, Wayne Takaki, Vincent Takaki; daughters, Joan Yanazaki, Jean Takaki, Valerie (Wendell) Takata, Rosemary (Robert) O’Rourke; sister, Betty (Roy- deceased) Sonoda; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services for Rose will be held at Norman’s Mortuary on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019. Visitation to begin at 9 a.m. and prayer service to begin at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Maui Memorial Park in the Main Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Ryan Carlos

September 18, 1956 – August 27, 2019

Ryan Mariano Carlos, a loving husband, dad, papa, son, friend and uncle. Born on Sept. 18, 1956 on the Island of Oʻahu.

He was a loving father to his four sons, three daughters, grandchildren, hānai children and many more to name. He was a beautiful, crazy, funny soul to be around. Residing on Lāna’i with His Wife Pauline until Aug. 27, 2019. His memories, jokes and laughs we will cherish forever and always in our hearts.

Ann Burd

Ann Burd

May 13, 1945 – August 27, 2019

Ann Ritsuko Burd, 74 of Kula, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019. She was born in Wailuku, Hawaiʻi on May, 14, 1945.

Although she is no longer here, she will continue to live in the hearts of her loving husband, Tim Burd; brothers, Howard Nishimoto (Luella) from Oʻahu, Kelly-Ann (David) Wong, Keith Nishimoto (Darcy), Kevin Nishimoto and her 4 grand-nieces/nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Tatsuo Nishimoto and Ayako Nagsue.

The Burd family would like to express a heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Islands Hospice and Maui Memorial Medical Center 4th & 5th floor for their compassionate care of Ann.

Robert Demotta

September 27, 1931 – August 22, 2019

Robert Stanley Demotta Sr., 87 of Hilo, passed away on Aug. 22, 2019 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Center in Hilo. Born on Sept. 9, 1931 in Hilo, he retired as a Pantry Cook at Hawaiʻi Naniloa Hotel.

Memorial Service will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 at Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo. Visitation at 1 p.m., Service at 1:30 p.m. Burial to follow at Mauna Kea Memorial Park at 3 p.m.

Robert is survived by sons, Robert S. Demotta Jr. of Hilo, and Jonathan H. Demotta of Honolulu; daughter, Roberta “Cookie” (John) Demotta-Cuban of Mt. View; and 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Christopher Subica

March 24, 1950 – August 21, 2019

Christopher Wayne Subica Sr. aka “Rainbow Man”, 69, of Mt. View, passed away on Aug. 21, 2019 at his home in Mt. View, Hawaiʻi. Born in Hawaiʻi on March 24, 1950, he was an Army veteran, and a freelance construction worker.

Private services to be held at a later date.

Survived by companion, Alexandria Subica of Mt. View, HI; sons, Christopher (Ku’uipo) Subica Jr. of Granite Falls, WA, and Manuel Subica of Hilo, HI; daughters, Shauna (Timothy) Cordero of Kea’au, HI, and Naomi Subica of Granite Falls, WA; brother, Michael Subica of Pahoa, HI; sister, Donnie Cruz of Volcano, HI; 12 Grandchildren, and numerous cousins.
