Maui Invitational Hoops Clinics Open for Registration

The Maui Jim Maui Invitational today announced details for the 2019 Hoops Clinics presented by HMSA, which include four kids clinics and one coaches clinic.

Kids clinics will take place on Oʻahu, Lānaʻi and Maui and will feature instruction from Chaminade coaches and players from the men’s and women’s basketball teams. A coaches’ clinic will be held on Lānaʻi.

Kids clinics are for players from grades 3 to 8, and the coaches clinic is open to all high school, middle school and community coaches. Registration for all clinics is free, and participants will receive a souvenir T-shirt and basketball.

Clinic details are listed below and subject to change.

Kids Clinics

When: Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 to 11 a.m. (check-in at 8:30 a.m.)
Where: Boys & Girls Club – Spalding Clubhouse / 1704 Waiola Street, Honolulu, HI 96826

Coaches Clinic

When: Sunday, Nov. 17 from 2 to 3 p.m. (check-in at 1:30 p.m.)
Where: Lānaʻi High School / 555 Fraser Ave. / Lānaʻi City, HI 96763
Who: High school, middle school, and community basketball coaches. Instruction is led by Eric Bovaird, head coach of Chaminade’s men’s basketball team and Dave Odom, Maui Jim Maui Invitational Tournament Chairman and 1995 National Coach of the Year with Wake Forest.
Cost: Free

The 2019 Maui Jim Maui Invitational teams include BYU, Dayton, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan St., UCLA, Virginia Tech, and host Chaminade. Combined, the teams own 196 NCAA Tournament berths, including 44 Final Four appearances, and 16 national championships.

The 36th edition of the early-season tournament will take place Nov. 25 to 27 at the Lahaina Civic Center on Maui.

All 12 Championship Round games of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational will be televised on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU, and streamed on ESPN3.
