The Māʻalaea Mauka brush fire that started last week Wednesday, Oct. 2, is now 100% contained as of this morning, according to Maui fire officials.

The Fire Department was also able to use a new technology to more accurately confirm total acreage burned at 4,600 acres (instead of the 4,100 acre initial estimate).

The Fire Department would like to ask the public to stay out of the burn area because of inherent hazards which exist.

There are still areas of smoldering kiawe and vegetation, but located well within the control lines.
