$1 Million Released for Safety at 6 O’ahu Schools

Governor Neil Abercrombie released more than a million dollars for safety improvements and security at six schools on O’ahu.  The capital improvement projects are part of the Governor’s New Day Work Projects, designed to create jobs and stimulate the economy.

The projects include:

• $155,000 for the replacement of the gym floor at Radford High School.
• $26,000 for the construction of a traffic barrier at Barbers Point Elementary School.
• $170,000 for the design and construction of security screens and gates at Royal Elementary School.
• $96,000 for a new drainage system on the front lawn of Royal Elementary School to mitigate safety concerns due to ponding water.
• $150,000 to replace the rusted perimeter fence at Pope Elementary School.
• $497,000 for the design and construction of security screens and gates at Kalani High School.

Since December 2010, Gov. Abercrombie has approved the release of nearly $300 million for New Day Work Projects.  Other projects that have received funding have been irrigation systems, energy efficiency projects, educational facilities, and transportation infrastructure.
