A fire that ignited in a Kīhei condominium on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 24, displaced two occupants, Maui fire officials said.

No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze, which broke out on the 5th floor of the Kīhei Beach Resort at about 12:47 p.m.

Flames did not spread from the apartment, but did cause smoke damage to the unit above, where firefighters assisted one occupant out of the building.

Both lanes of South Kīhei Road, between North Kīhei Road and Uwapo Road, were closed for about two hours while fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

Red Cross officials say caseworkers will continue to follow up with those affected in the coming weeks to provide referrals, guidance or additional assistance to help with the recovery process.

The Red Cross encourages all families to devise an evacuation plan with two different escape routes, as well as a strategy to connect with loved ones after a disaster.

Residents are also urged to prepare a disaster supplies kit that is readily available in a quick evacuation.
