Paddle For Keiki Toy Drive Benefits 275+ Kids
Maui’s festive season kicked off with the holiday spirit in full display at the 4th annual Paddle For Keiki event held last weekend at Kīhei Canoe Club at Ka Lae Pohaku Beach Park.
The paddling event and toy drive, held on Sunday, Dec. 15, drew 233 participants and spectators together to help benefit underprivileged children in Maui County.
The 4th annual Paddle For Keiki was organized by Hawaiian Paddle Sports and Street Bikers United and featured untimed ocean “races.” Participants were encouraged to bring unwrapped toys or make donations of $25 or more to go toward buying toys. Nalu’s South Shore Grill provided breakfast after the race.
As a result, $2,200 and 188 toys were collected this year. Combined, this is enough to provide toys for more than 275 children.
Paddle For Keiki is part of Hawaiian Paddle Sports’ Mālama Maui community give back program.
