Wind Gusts Up to 50 mph for Maui, Lāna‘i and Kaho‘olawe
Wind Advisory Until 6 p.m. Tuesday:The National Weather Service is forecasting windy conditions through tomorrow evening.
Northeast winds of 30 mph with gusts of 50 mph are forecast for portions of Maui, Lānaʻi and Kahoʻolawe.
Winds this strong could down tree branches and cause localized power outages. Motorists, especially those in high profile vehicles, are urged to drive with caution.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020.
According to an area synopsis issued by the NWS this morning, “A broad area of strong high pressure, stationed far northeast of the islands will be shifting west, closer to the islands, during the next day or so, thus maintaining breezy and gusty trade winds through the new work week. Low level moisture riding in with the trades will focus the showers to the windward and mountain areas, but the strong trades will carry some of these showers well into the lee areas of the smaller islands. A wetter trade wind pattern is likely during the second half of the week in combination with an upper level low moving over the area from the east.”
