Large Surf, Strong Winds, Astronomical Tides Results in Surf Warning

Surf is expected to build to 10 to 15 feet today along East facing shores of Maui and MolokaŹ»i, and hold through Saturday.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning that remains in effect until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020.

The elevated and rough surf is the result of strong gale force trade winds near and upstream of the islands.

The NWS says the combination of the large surf, strong onshore winds, high astronomical tides, and elevated ocean water levels will likely produce wave runup and localized coastal erosion during the next few days.
