Utility Work on Main Street Begins This Weekend
Utility work starts this weekend on Main Street in Wailuku near the Church Street intersection, the Department of Management announced today.
MIRA Image Construction, LLC begins work this Sunday, Feb. 16 at the project site.
Infrastructure improvements will include utility replacement, upgrades, paving and electrical work. Work will occur after peak traffic hours and on weekends.
Motorists can expect various lane closures and detours during the project’s duration, with roadwork expected to continue through June. When lane closures occur on Main Street, at least one lane will remain open in each direction. Contraflow may be done in some situations.
When full road closures are in effect, detour signs will be posted for motorists. Motorists are asked to consider alternate routes and drive with caution within construction areas.
Special duty officers will be on site to help ensure public safety by assisting with lane closures and traffic control. Pedestrians and motorists are advised to proceed with caution.
Road improvements are part of Phase 1A of the Wailuku Town Improvements project.
“This project will provide our residents with quality roads, sidewalks, water and sewer lines and drainage systems for decades to come,” Mayor Michael Victorino said. “I thank everyone for their patience while work is ongoing.”
