Brush Fire Scorches 100 Acres on Kaho’olawe

A brush fire that broke out on the Southwest end of Kaho’olawe has burned about 100 acres, according to the Maui Fire Department.

Fire officials say the fire was reported at about 10 this morning in Kealaikahiki.

At 11:30 a.m., officials estimated that the fire had scorched about 100 acres and was moving in the mauka direction.

“At this time, no active firefighting will be taking place due to uncertainties associated with unexploded ordnance,” a press release from the department

read.

Another recon flight is planned for later this afternoon.

No information regarding damages is available at this time.
