Small Plane Upside Down at Kahului Airport, Maui

Officials with the state Department of Transportation say the overturned plane has been removed just after 11 a.m. and all airport operations have resumed.  Travelers are advised to check with their airline for flight status.

The Hawaʻi Department of Transportation and Airport Rescue Fire Fighter crews are in the process of removing the flipped plane from Kahului Airport. All scheduled departures and arrivals are temporarily delayed during the process, which is anticipated to be finished soon, according to the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation.

Emergency crews are on the scene of a small plane that is laying upside down at Kahului Airport on Maui.

Witnesses tell us the incident occurred at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.  The tail rotor number is N738DB. The Flightware website lists the last registered (Nov. 2019) owner as Fly Maui LLC out of Kihei, Maui; however it is unclear if the plane is still operated by the company.

The Department of Transportation says the single engine Cessna flipped near the runway.  The pilot was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Flights were temporarily impacted.

Passengers at Kahului Airport are encouraged to check with the airline on flight status.
