Mayor Victorino Signs $4 Million Emergency Funding Bill Into Law
Maui Mayor Michael Victorino signed a bill into law on Friday to authorize $4 million in emergency funds to support the County of Maui’s efforts in addressing COVID-19 impacts.
Ordinance 5071 authorizes the immediate release of emergency funds to provide for increased county operational costs and emergency services for the community. The release of funds allows departments to move quickly and efficiently to adjust services and provide emergency relief when necessary.
“I am immensely grateful to Chair Alice Lee and the Council for the quick passage of this critical bill,” said Mayor Victorino. “The emergency funding is vital for protecting our community and responding effectively to this quickly evolving situation.”
A Public Health Emergency Proclamation on COVID-19 was issued for the County of Maui on March 2, 2020. Governor David Ige issued a statewide emergency proclamation the same day, with a supplemental proclamation issued on March 16, 2020.
