The National Weather Service has continued a wind advisory for Maui County and the summit of Haleakala until 6 o’clock tonight. The forecast calls for strong northeast winds of 15-30 mph, with local gusts up to 50 mph to continue through this afternoon. The greatest winds speeds will occur through valleys, over ridges and around headlands, especially on the leeward sides of each Island.

Precautionary Measures: Winds this strong can knock down tree limbs, may cause power outages and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Secure any loose objects that may become airborne or move them indoors.

Information: Maui County Civil Defense will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or access NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts for any updates. The NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts can be reached by calling 1-866-944-5052. The NOAA Weather Internet services can be found at www.prh.noaa.gov/hnl.

Pre-recorded advisories and notifications are available 24-hours a day on the Maui County Automated Information System (AIS) by calling 986-1200.
