VIDEO: Real Talk with Imua Family Services Executive Director, Dean Wong

Tara Dugan, digital sales director of MauiNow interviewed Dean Wong, executive director of Imua Family Services to learn how Imua has worked to continue providing critical services to children and families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have been here serving this community in Maui for 73 years now. Very fundamentally what Imua does is help children move forward;  children with developmental delays, disabilities and a variety of special needs. We see these children from birth onward through about the age of eight which is the years of early childhood. We do critical intervention services to help these children move forward so they can reach their full potential and provide resources to their families so they know how to support their children,” Wong shared.

“I think the important thing that we had to realize very quickly was if we’re going to survive and be able to move forward you have to learn how to pivot quickly and be flexible and make changes,” he added.

Imua’s staff of early childhood professionals are currently utilizing Imua’s own facilities that were not being used due to the pandemic to provide free childcare for essential medical workers and first responders.

Wong announced that Imua has partnered with the Nanny Connection – and owner and director Nicole Taylor with support of the Kent and Polli Smith family fund –  to offer Nanny services to essential medical workers and first responders in their own home at no cost.
