VIDEO: Real Talk with Boys and Girls Clubs of Maui CEO and Director of Operations

Tara Dugan, digital sales director of MauiNow interviews Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui, Inc. CEO Kelly Pearson and director of operations, Stephen Bennett to learn how the coronavirus pandemic has affected their operations and what they are doing to support the community.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Maui is a youth development organization with eight youth centers on Maui. The organization provides one of the most accessible programs to kids and families around Maui with an annual membership fee of $5 for a full year of services.

The organization is currently waiving its membership fee.

“Since everyone is being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, our membership fee is currently waived to try further accommodate all the families who are facing financial hardship,” Bennett said.

The youth development organization has moved all its programming online due to the closure of its physical clubhouses.

“We want to make sure that we are available and we have a platform that is sustainable that can keep kids safe, specifically with academic supports,” Bennett added.

Pearson said that they want to do their share of supporting the community by providing their services to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The programs are here, they are fun activities, if the kids have idle time, send them to the virtual clubhouse. They will have fun and they will learn something,” Pearson encouraged the community.
