Lahaina Area Man Charged with Second Degree Murder
Maui police arrested and charged 61 year old David Richard Stevens, a Lahaina area man, for second degree murder in connection with an ongoing investigation into the death of a man on Waineʻe Street early Thursday morning.
Stevens was arrested at around 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, and was formally charged today, May 22.
Stevens was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
The investigation is ongoing, and next of kin notification for the deceased man is pending.
Maui police have launched a second degree murder investigation into the death of a man found unresponsive on a side street in Lahaina on Thursday morning.
Police were called to the scene at around 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 21.
Upon arrival to 535 Waineʻe Street, Lahaina Patrol Officers found the man on the shoulder side of the roadway.
Police say it was reported the male appeared to have been assaulted and was bleeding.
Upon police arrival, the man was located and no signs of life were observed. Medic 4 arrived on scene and confirmed the man was deceased.
Police say he had visible injuries to his face and head.
The roadway between Waineʻe Street at Luakini Street and Waineʻe Street at 533 Waineʻe Street, were closed for the investigation.
Notification of the man’s next-of-kin and exact cause of death is pending.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
