PC: Habitat for Humanity

This week two families received keys to their new home as part of Habitat for Humanity Maui’s affordable housing project in Lahaina.

The homeowner’s friends and family contributed a combined 1,950 sweat equity and volunteer hours on the 864 square feet home featuring two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Both homes were completed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in a decrease of volunteers for the project.

“We had less hands on site due to the restrictions surrounding the stay-at-home-order but our family partners, construction team, and staff were dedicated to working extra hard so that both families were able to close on their homes,” said Yvonne McClean, Community Relations Director.

As the pandemic continues to impact our community, Habitat for Humanity Maui is dedicated to fulfilling their mission to bring attainable housing for those in need. Some of their current projects include the Kahoma Residential Subdivision, Keokea-Waiohului Hawaiian Homelands in partnership with DHHL, and programs for existing homeowners such as “A Brush with Kindness”, helping Kupunas and disabled homeowners with critical repairs.

“The changes in the recent months have made the need for safe, stable, and affordable housing much more urgent. We want the community to know we are here and committed to continue pursuing our mission,” McClean said.
