Kihei Man Suffers Fatal Injuries in Wailea Crash

Two Kihei men were injured, and a third has died following in a single car crash on Wailea Alanui Drive last night.  The accident was reported at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 4, 2011, about 100 feet north of Wailea Ike Drive, near The Shops at Wailea.

The 19-year-old occupant, who was the right front seat passenger, initially suffered critical, life threatening injuries, but died this morning from his injuries.  He has since been identified as Ryan Michael Poulter of Kihei.

The 21-year-old driver, and a 20-year-old Kihei man (who was also a passenger in the vehicle) were transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment of lesser injuries.

Wailea Alanui Drive was closed to northbound traffic while police conducted an investigation.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, however, police are investigating speed and alcohol as possible factors.

The accident was the 10th traffic fatality on Maui County roads this year.

Three Kihei men were injured, one critically, in a single car crash on Wailea Alanui Drive last night.  The accident was reported at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 4, 2011, about 100 feet north of Wailea Ike Drive, near The Shops at Wailea.

The driver (age 21), and his passengers (ages 19 and 20) were all transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.  The 19-year-old occupant, who was in the right front seat passenger seat, suffered critical, life threatening injuries.

Wailea Alanui Drive was closed to northbound traffic while police conducted an investigation.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Speed and alcohol are being investigated as possible factors.
