SolarCity Coming to Maui, Adding Jobs
By Sonia Isotov
Maui businesses and non-profits now have another solar power option as SolarCity, a national solar provider, expands services to Hawaii.
SolarCity has opened a 19,500 square foot warehouse in Mililani to support its expansion in Hawaii and reportedly expects to hire as many as 100 local residents this year. The company said in a statement that it has already hired 35 local residents and expects to hire 55-65 more this year.
SolarCity will initially serve residential customers on O‘ahu, and business and non-profit customers on O‘ahu, Maui, Hawai’i Island, Kaua‘i and Lana’i. SolarCity claims it is now offering one of the most affordable residential solar options on O’ahu, allowing some homeowners to adopt solar for as little as $60 per month.
“Hawai’i is one of the best places in the world for solar. Homeowners pay some of the highest electricity rates in the country and with the abundance of sun throughout the year, solar makes both financial and environmental sense for local residents,” said Cooper, SolarCity’s regional director in Hawaii, in a written statement today.
SolarCity services to homeowners, businesses and non-profit organizations include solar power design and engineering, financing, installation, insurance, monitoring and repair services. Currently, SolarCity has 24 operations solar power provider centers serving Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawai’i, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington, D.C.
