MAUI ROAD WORK FOR WEEK OF MARCH 9-13, 2009

24-HOUR HALEAKALA HIGHWAY LANE CLOSURES FROM KAHULUI TO PUKALANI

The state Department of Transportation advises Maui motorists of various lane closures on Haleakala Highway on the following dates and locations:

• Monday, March 9, through Friday, March 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, single lane closures in the Pukalani-bound direction between North Firebreak Road and Haliimaile Road for median shoulder paving and truck crossing work.
• 24-hour single lane closures in the Pukalani-bound direction from Keahua Road to Haliimaile Road for concrete overlay operations. In this area, one Kahului-bound lane will be contraflowed to provide an additional Pukalani-bound lane on the following dates and times:
  • Monday afternoon, March 9, through Friday morning, March 13, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., nightly.
  • Friday afternoon, March 13, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

During contraflow hours, Pukalani-bound motorists wishing to turn left onto

Haliimaile Road may do so only from the contraflow lane. The four-inch concrete overlay will cover a five-mile uphill portion of Haleakala Highway and is expected to extend the life of the roadway by more than 30 years. Phase I of the project focused on the area between North Firebreak Road and Keahua Junction. Phase II now focuses on the section of roadway between Keahua Junction and Haliimaile Road. The final phase will focus on the half-mile section below the Old Haleakala Road off-ramp. Completion of the entire project is anticipated in March of 2009. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time. Roadwork is weather-permitting.

HONOAPIILANI HIGHWAY DAYTIME ROADWORK

The state Department of Transportation advises Maui motorists of intermittent single lane closures on Honoapiilani Highway in the Kaanapali-bound direction between Kapunakea Street and Lei Alii Parkway on Monday, March 9, through Friday, March 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, for clean up work for fiber optic cable installations. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time. Roadwork is weather-permitting.

HONOAPIILANI HIGHWAY ROADWORK OLOWALU TO PUAMANA

The state Department of Transportation advises Maui motorists of intermittent right lane closures on Honoapiilani Highway in the Kaanapali-bound direction between Mile Post 14.6 and Mile Post 15 on Monday, March 9, through Friday,

March 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, for paving and guardrail repair operations. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time. Roadwork is weather-permitting.

PIILANI HIGHWAY DAYTIME ROADWORK

The state Department of Transportation advises Maui motorists of various daytime lane closures on Piilani Highway on Monday, March 9, through Friday, March 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, at the following locations:

• Alternating single lane closures in the Kahului-Bound direction between Wailea Ike Drive and Kilohana Drive for clean up work for fiber optic cable installations.
• Multiple lane closures in both directions between Uwapo Road and Lipoa Parkway for roadway resurfacing and preventative maintenance.

Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time. Roadwork is weather-permitting.

KAHULUI BEACH ROAD LANE CLOSURES

The state Department of Transportation advises Maui motorists of alternating single lane closures on Kahului Beach Road in both directions between Kaahumanu Avenue and Waiehu Beach Road on Monday, March 9, through Friday, March 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, for pavement striping and traffic signal upgrade operations. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time. Roadwork is weather-permitting.

KAMEHAMEHA V HIGHWAY LANE CLOSURES ON MOLOKAI

The state Department of Transportation advises Molokai motorists of alternating single lane closures in both directions on Kamehameha V Highway between Mile Post 2 and Mile Post 4, on Monday, March 9, through Friday, March 13, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., daily, for pavement resurfacing.
