Nicholas R. Ochs Arrested in Hawai‘i for Unlawful Entry into the US Capitol Building

Federal authorities arrested Nicholas R. Ochs, at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on Thursday night and have charged him with unlawful entry into the US Capitol Building.

Ochs is widely reported in various media outlets as the founder of the Hawaiʻi Chapter of the far right-wing “Proud Boys” group. He also made an unsuccessful run for the State Representative, Dist 22 seat (Waikīkī and Honolulu) in the most recent November election.

The criminal complaint was unsealed today in federal court in the District of Columbia, charging Ochs with Unlawful Entry into Restricted Buildings or Grounds, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1752(a). 

His initial appearance will be in federal court in Honolulu.  

According to court filings, the charge stems from the man’s unlawful entry into the United States Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021.  The government will seek his removal to the District of Columbia to face this charge.

On his Twitter feed at 11:13 a.m. HST on Jan. 6, Ochs had a photo posted of himself and another man smoking cigarettes with a caption that read: “Hello from the Capital lol.”

The case is being prosecuted by the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

The charge in the complaint is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
