Moloka‘i Flood Warning
FLOOD WARNING FOR MOLOKAI:
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Flash Flood Warning for the island of Molokaʻi in Maui County until 6:45 a.m. HST.
At 3:19 a.m. HST, radar indicated heavy rain over eastern Molokai. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Flash flooding is occurring or expected to begin shortly. Stream gauges at Kawela Gulch and Kaunakakai Gulch are exceeding flash flood thresholds. Flood waters may block portions of Kamehameha highway this morning.
Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas is expected. Public road closures are possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include: Kamalo, Kalaupapa National Park, Ualapue, Kawela, Pukoo, Halawa Valley, Kaunakakai and Kualapuu.
The public is advised to stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry.
Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
