Kīhei Man Charged with Assault for Incident at Kalama Park
A Kīhei man was arrested and charged with first degree assault for his alleged involvement in an altercation at Kalama Park on Friday night that resulted in injuries to another man.
Police say 36-year-old Lopaka Kapoi was identified as one of the responsible males involved in the assault. He was transported to the Kīhei Police Station on Saturday, Oct. 2, for processing without incident, and posted $5,000 bail.
The charges stem from an incident reported at around 8:47 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 at Kalama Park. Officers responded to a report of an assault in which Kīhei Fire Station personnel relayed that they heard a commotion, and observed several individuals near the altercation. They were able to disperse the individuals and provided first aid to a 61-year-old male victim from Kīhei.
The victim was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.
Kīhei Patrol Officers conducted multiple follow-ups to locate additional witnesses and identify the responsible individual(s). The investigation is ongoing.
