Bailey House Celebrates Museum Day With Free Admission

On September 24, in recognition of the Smithsonian Magazine’s 8th Annual Museum Day, the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku will have its own celebration. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. this landmark will be selling Hawaiiana books, donated to the museum. Everyone gets in free.
Currently on display at the Bailey House, are Kapa, from the museum and others on loan from private collections. This museum offers patrons a glimpse into old Hawaii, with a well-restored and preserved mission home built in 1833. This museum touts the largest collection of Hawaiian artifacts in Maui County, on exhibit. Don’t miss a peek at the 100 year-old canoe, and the surfboard that belonged to Duke Kahanamoku. Grab your ukulele to come and jam in the Kana Ka Pili being held during the free admission day at the Bailey House Museum.
The Bailey House is run by the Maui Historical Society. The Historical Society is a non-profit that helps preserve, protect, share, and restore landmarks and historical sites on Maui. They were founded in 1951, chartered in 1956, and opened the Bailey House Museum in 1957.
