Man Arrested Following Kahului Bank Robbery

Maui police arrested a 44-year-old man on Tuesday (September 6, 2011) following a report of a bank robbery several hours earlier in Kahului.

Authorities say a man entered the Kahului Branch of American Savings on South Puunene Avenue at around 11:35 a.m., demanded money from a teller, and requested that it be placed in an envelope.

The man told the teller he had a weapon, however, no weapons were observed, according to Maui Police Lt. Wayne Ibarra.

Police say the man then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

The Maui Police Department Criminal Investigation Division arrested a man in connection with the case at around 3:20 p.m. in the area of Hale Nanea, off of Amala Place in Kahului. Authorities say the individual has no local address.

An investigation is ongoing.
