Update: Vehicle drives through store front of Rodeo General Store in Makawao causing $200K damage

Update: (8:17 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, 2022)

A motor vehicle accident resulted in an estimated $200,000 in damage to the Rodeo General Store in Makawao after a brand new vehicle mistakenly drove through the storefront on Monday afternoon.

The accident was reported at around 3:04 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, 2022. Officers responded to the business, located at 3661 Baldwin Avenue in Makawao, and found a 2022 Mercedes Benz sedan had crashed into the building.

A preliminary police investigation reveals the operator of the Mercedes was realigning its parking fronting the business when it collided into a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck.  The operator of the Mercedes then mistakenly accelerated into the business’ front entrance, according to police.

As a result of the collision, a  female employee within the business sustained injuries. She was treated and released on the scene by Medic personnel, according to department spokesperson Alana Pico.

The vehicle involved was a dark colored Mercedes with temporary plates. In addition to the storefront, two wooden parking posts were pushed to the ground in the incident.
