UPDATE: Motorcyclist Killed in Fiery Crash on Mokulele

A 32-year-old man suffered fatal injuries on the Mokulele Highway late last night while passing the Cane Haul Road intersection.
The motorcyclist was traveling north on the highway at around 10:55 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2011, when he collided with an industrial truck traveling east across the highway at Cane Haul Road.
According to police reports, the motorcyclist had a red light at the time of the crash.
Following the impact, the motorcycle caught on fire.
The operator of the motorcycle died as a result of the crash and was tentatively identified as a 32-year-old man. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities say he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The truck operator, meantime, was not injured.
The accident was the sixth fatal crash involving a motorcycle this year, and the 15th traffic fatality on Maui County roads in 2011.

Motorists traveling on the Mokulele Highway are advised of a fatal motorcycle accident near the Piilani Highway intersection.
Maui police closed Kahului-bound traffic on the Mokulele Highway at 11:55 p.m., on Monday, September 26, 2011, and were rerouting traffic via North Kihei Road to the Honoapiilani Highway.
There is no estimated time on when the advisory will be lifted.
