LAHAINA BYPASS STATUS UPDATE

The state Department of Transportation will update the public next week on the progress of Phase 1B1 of the Lahaina Bypass project. Representatives from the DOT and the engineering firm Austin, Tsutsumi & Associates, Inc. will answer questions and provide an update on the status of the project.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Lahaina Civic Center.

“With work on the first phase (Phase 1A) well underway, we know that the West Maui community is excited that the construction of the Lahaina Bypass is beginning,” said Brennon Morioka, director of the DOT.“We are committed to maintaining our forward momentum and invite the public to come learn more about the next phase of the project.”

Phase 1B of the Lahaina Bypass, spans approximately 1.7 miles, beginning at Lahainaluna Road (connecting to the ongoing work on Phase 1A) and ending at Hokiokio Place to the south.

This federally financed project is currently in the design phase, and is expected to be advertised for construction in the Fall of 2009.The project is anticipated to begin in early 2010 and be complete in the summer of 2011.
