Maui Oceanfront Marathon set for Jan. 14 with newly designed race courses

The Maui Oceanfront Marathon, which includes a 5K, Mom’s 6-miler and half-marathon, is back for its 16th running on Jan. 14 with new race courses.

The new routes avoid the burned area of Lahaina and finish near the  Launiupoko Beach area on the closed off H30 between the southern bypass exit and Kai Hele Ku Street.

For information about traffic delays and detours for the event, click here. About 1,800 runners are expected to participate, and they will be primarily on the bike path shoulder between Wailea and Launiupoko Beach until noon on Sunday.

The marathon (26.2 miles) begins at 5 a.m. at The Shops at Wailea. For the route, click here. There is a 4 a.m. start for anyone who needs more time to finish before noon. This is primarily for walkers. And this early start time will not be listed faster that 5 hours and 30 minutes.

The cost is $160, with discounts available for Maui Kamaʻaina, active military, seniors over 60, some running clubs and youth 17 and under.

The half-marathon (13.1 miles) starts from Māʻalaea at 6:30 a.m. Click here for the route. It’s $150, with discounts available.

The Momʻs 6-miler goes from Ukumehame Beach Park to Launipoko Beach Park and starts at 7:30 a.m. Click here for the route. It’s $90, with discounts available.

The 5K (3.1 miles with a grand 42-feet of elevation gain) is a route that starts and finishes near Launiupoko Beach Entrance. Baby strollers are allowed because the course is closed entirely to traffic It starts at 7 a.m. and costs $85, with discounts available. For the route, click here.

And lastly, there is the free Mom’s Cookie Run, an un-timed fun event on Jan. 11 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Kalama Park in Kīhei.
