Maui Council to hold two special meetings to finalize budget and consider resolution on Air Force telescope atop Haleakalā
The Maui County Council will hold two special council meetings Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m. to finalize the fiscal year 2025 budget and at 3 p.m. to consider a resolution on a Department of the Air Force telescope proposal, Council Chair Alice L. Lee announced.
Lee said the first special council meeting will only include budget-related legislation for the county’s fiscal year that begins July 1. The second meeting is on Resolution 24-103, providing comments on the proposed Maui Optical and Supercomputing Site Small Telescope Advanced Research facility, or AMOS STAR, atop Haleakalā.
“My colleagues and I are grateful for all who have testified during this year’s challenging budget session,” said Lee, who holds the seat for the Wailuku-Waiheʻe-Waikapū residency area. “Wednesday afternoon will provide one final opportunity for testimony on the annual budget.”
Lee noted the county charter requires the council to deliver the budget to the mayor for his approval or disapproval by June 10.
Comments on the AMOS STAR project’s environmental impact statement are due by June 7 and can be submitted online at www.amosstareis.com.
The council will hold regular council meetings on June 7 and 21, both at 9 a.m. Committees meet Monday-Thursday in advance of Friday council meetings.
The meeting agendas are accessible at mauicounty.us/agendas.
In-person, online and phone testimony is welcome at all meetings. Testimony instructions are on the meeting agendas.
