Maui police responded to the Māʻalaea Boat Ramp regarding an unresponsive male at around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024.

A 62-year-old Pukalani man reported trolling in his boat near the shoreline between the “Pali” lookout and tunnel when he observed a fishing pole bobbing in the water and an unresponsive male nearby.  He transported the individual to Māʻalaea Harbor for medical assistance, where fire and medic personnel performed life-saving measures; however, those measures proved unsuccessful, according to police.

The victim has since been identified as Harold Mamuad, 23, of Kīhei.
