TY Management Corporation welcomes the opening of Kapalua Village, the first privately funded temporary housing community for Kapalua golf course and other Kapalua-based employees who were impacted by the devastating Lahaina, Maui wildfires. The opening of Kapalua Village coincides with the one-year remembrance of the wildfires and the first group of families is scheduled to move in this month.

“After learning about the devastating aftermath of the Maui wildfires, we were compelled to immediately find solutions to provide secure housing for our Kapalua Golf employees,” said Tadashi Yanai, CEO of TY Management Corporation. “Our hope for Kapalua Village is to support employees and others who were displaced as a result of the wildfires by offering a seamless transition as they work to rebuild their permanent homes.”

The new development features 50 temporary modular homes supplied by Daiwa House Group—a Japanese company and pioneer in prefab housing—to offer incoming residents at Kapalua Village comfort, functionality and a sense of community. The units include two, three, and four-bedroom living configurations and each unit is fully-equipped with a kitchen, bathroom, appliances, furniture, and air conditioning.

“We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by the fire. We are delighted to have been able to utilize the knowledge and expertise cultivated by our company group in collaboration with TY Management and other relevant parties to contribute to the recovery efforts in this area. We pray for a swift recovery for this region,” said Keiichi Yoshii, President and CEO of Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd.

The construction of Kapalua Village was completed in just over six months due to the dedication of many local community, business and government partners who worked together to turn the dream of the important project into reality. With the support and dedication of Gov. Josh Green, M.D., County of Maui and Maui-based architect Atom Kasprzycki, the project came to fruition efficiently and effectively.

“As we continue to work toward providing permanent housing solutions for those impacted by the wildfires, we are grateful to TY Management’s swiftness in supporting its employees and displaced individuals,” said Green.

“The County of Maui worked diligently to make sure that the temporary permits for these interim housing units were processed as quickly as possible,” said Mayor Richard Bissen. “By providing housing for employees while they rebuild their homes, TY Management has helped provide a stable, safe and comfortable environment for families who have endured so much.”

On August 8, 2023, high winds and dry weather caused wildfires to spread throughout the historic district of Lahaina. The wildfires destroyed more than 2,200 structures and displaced thousands of residents.

Supporters of the Kapalua Village project included Governor Josh Green, M.D. and team, County of Maui, Kapalua Golf General Manager Alex Nakajima, Kapalua Golf Director Kalani Kaleiopu, Daiwa House Industry Group, Layton Construction, Goodfellow Bros., Nippon Express, MATSON, IKEA, Costco, Cutting Edge Development, and many other Maui-based professionals.
