Graduates of Basic Training Series 2.0 with Coach Nickole Ciszak. PC: Maui Powerhouse Gym

Maui Powerhouse Gym has announced the official launch of its Basic Training Program, beginning Aug. 20. The bootcamp is designed for those ready to embark on a health and wellness journey but unsure where to begin.

“In the last year, people have started to feel the effects of the bad news physically and mentally,” said Maui Powerhouse Gym Owner Peter Shenkin. “Our goal is to help people kick start some of their wellness goals and start to pick themselves up a little bit.”

Participation is inclusive of all ages and genders with past participants spanning the age spectrum from 17 to 75, and all fitness levels and body types. The series covers everything from proper use of gym equipment and personalized fitness planning to nutrition basics and injury prevention. Participants will engage in group exercise classes, mindfulness sessions, and receive ongoing support and education to ensure a well-rounded approach to self-care.

“The most common reason that folks get their brain in the way or stop taking care of themselves is that they don’t know how to do it,” said Shenkin. “This program removes that and it is a fun and rewarding ride.”

To help participants feel comfortable working out on the gym floor by themselves, the boot-camp will take up to 50 participants through fitness classes and courses on holistic personal caretaking. The Basic Training Program is offered at Maui Powerhouse Gym (1279 S. Kīhei Rd., #118) twice per week for four weeks, on Tuesday and Thursday, with sessions at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The program is offered to gym members and can be free for new gym members. Each participant makes a $160 down payment and earns a $20 credit back for every class they attend.

“Our aim is always to give all of that money back to participants,” said Studio Director Nickole Ciszak. “It’s easy to go to ‘Week One,’ but the money on the board becomes a big factor in ‘Week Three,’ when people start searching for excuses. No excuses, come to class.”

Successful participants also receive a custom completion medal and prize pack upon completing the program.
