The West Maui Taxpayers’ Association released its endorsements for the Nov. 5 general election.

State legislative seats:

• Senate District 6 (West Maui, Mā‘alaea, Waikapū and South Maui) — Angus McKelvey
• House District 14 (Kahakuloa, Waihe‘e, portions of Waiehu and Mā‘alaea, Olowalu, Lahaina, Lahainaluna, Kā‘anapali, Māhinahina Camp, Kahana and Honokahua): — Elle Cochran

Maui County Council seats:

• West Maui: Lorien Acquintas
• Wailuku-Waiheʻe-Waikapū: Alice Lee
• Kahului: Tasha Kama
• South Maui: Tom Cook
• Makawao-Haʻikū-Pāʻia: Nohe Uʻu-Hodgins
• Upcountry: Yuki Lei Sugimura
• Molokai: John Pele

Maui County Council Members Shane Sinenci of East Maui and Gabe Johnson of Lāna‘i are uncontested for re-election to their East Maui and Lāna‘i residency seats.

According to the association, it endorses candidates that are fiscally responsible who can provide solutions to help local people to become homeowners and support a healthy visitor industry. 

“A lot is demanded from individuals who seek office and WMTA appreciates each candidate’s commitment in serving our community,” the association said in an announcement.

The West Maui Taxpayers Association is a non-partisan, non-sectarian organization founded in 1974. It was established to ensure that West Maui received its fair share of state and county tax revenue to help improve the lives of the residents of West Maui, create a vibrant economy and sustain a safe wholesome environment.
