Maui customers are getting a big surprise this week as they arrive to find out that Powerhouse Gym has gone bankrupt and closed literally overnight.

Customers were both outraged and bewildered as they showed up for their workout last night and this morning to find a vague note and doors locked at the Powerhouse Gym in Kihei at Azeka Mall.

One customer who came for her spin class last night remarked that she was stunned that her monthly dues had been automatically deducted from her checking account on Tuesday and on Thursday the gym closed without a word to customers.

The typed notice on the door of the Kihei location states: “Powerhouse Gym is temporarily closed due to bankruptcy proceedings. A court appointed trustee has been appointed. The gym will be under new management and will re-open in the near future. Thank you for your patience and understanding, aloha.”

A second handwritten notice read: “For an update on when we will re-open, you can visit our Facebook page or text (541) 954-9985.”

As of this morning, The Powerhouse Gym Hawaii website has no information or an announcement of the closures and neither does the company’s national website, Facebook page, or Twitter account.
