More than 5,000 cases of bagged salad products containing Romaine lettuce have been voluntarily recalled because of possible E. coli contamination, an organism that may cause diarrhea illness.

The product by Ready Pac Foods, Inc. of Irwindale, CA, has a use-by-date of November 18, 2011.

The recalled items were shipped to Safeway stores in Hawaii and have since been removed from retail shelves.
