Fire burns second story bedroom of Kahului home

A fire at a Central Maui home was contained to a second story bedroom on Saturday night. The fire was reported at 9:33 p.m. on Dec. 14 at a home on Hoʻomoku Street in Kahului.

Firefighters arrived to find the fire had been partially extinguished by the residents. Crews remained on scene to complete the extinguishment.

The fire damaged a wall, mattress, nearby shelves and their contents. No value assessment was available. No injuries were reported and no residents were displaced.

Responding units included: Engine 1, Engine 10, Rescue 10, Hazmat 10, Engine 5, Engine 6, a battalion chief, and a fire investigator.

Crews extinguished the fire at 9:57 p.m., and concluded response at 11:37 p.m.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
