$1.7 M RELEASED FOR WATER IMPROVEMENTS AT PU`UNENE ARMORY

The Pu’unene Armory received $1.7 million in construction funds for water system improvements.  The money was released by the governor’s office as part of the administration’s $1.8 billion public infrastructure construction plan to stimulate the economy and create jobs.

The armory improvements are being made to address a projected decrease in water pressure that would have made ongoing operations dysfunctional, according to the governor’s office.

Construction is set to begin in October, with completion expected in May of next year.  Governor Linda Lingle previously released $103,000 for the design of the project, which is now complete.  The total project cost is estimated to be $1,880,000.

Project improvements will include the construction of a 250,000 gallon fire-flow storage tank and a 3,000 gallon water tank, the installation of water pumps, fire sprinkler pumps and iron water piping, as well as pipe chlorination, landscape irrigation and miscellaneous electrical work.

Progress of the more than 1,500 projects included in the administration’s public infrastructure construction plan can be tracked on the Governor’s website at www.hawaii.gov/cip.
