South Maui waterline temporary repair completed; Water conservation requested from 5 a.m. Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday

The County of Maui Department of Water Supply is requesting that all South Maui customers, including residents, visitors, hotels and condominium properties, conserve water and limit nonessential use from 5 a.m. Sunday, April 5, through 6 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2026, while crews complete permanent repairs to a South Maui mainline.
Although crews completed a temporary repair today, DWS said the break was larger than anticipated, and additional parts are needed to complete permanent repairs. Efforts are underway to secure the necessary materials and equipment to complete the work.
Water crews completed the temporary repair to the South Maui mainline break today, and water service is currently being restored and is expected to return to normal within the next couple hours.
“During the initial repair period today, water demand remained high, which contributed to low tank levels and temporary service disruptions in some areas,” DWS Director John Stufflebean said. “We are asking for the community’s kōkua during this next phase of repairs Sunday through Monday. With a longer repair window ahead, conservation will be critical to maintaining water availability for essential needs.”
Water outage or low pressure may occur during the repair period, particularly in areas mauka of Līpoa Street, between Līpoa Street and Kilohana Drive, and throughout Wailea and Mākena. Water storage tanks are being refilled; however, they may rapidly deplete if conservation efforts are not followed during this period, potentially resulting in additional low pressure conditions and outages in the surrounding areas.
Affected areas include the Maui Research & Technology Park, Kīhei Charter School, and surrounding businesses and residents throughout Kīhei, Wailea and Mākena. Maui Meadows is not expected to be affected; however, residents are still asked to conserve water during this time.
Customers are asked to refrain from all nonessential water use, including watering lawns and washing vehicles. Conservation efforts will help maintain water availability for essential needs while repair work is underway.
