Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui CEO Kelly Maluo-Pearson to retire after nearly 30 years of service

Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui today announced that Chief Executive Officer Kelly Maluo-Pearson will retire from the CEO role on Sept. 4 after nearly three decades of service to Maui County’s keiki and families. She will remain engaged with BGCM as a Strategic Advisor during a six-month transition period.

Maluo-Pearson began serving Maui youth in 1997 at Maui Youth Centers. She continued when the organization became affiliated with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and became Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui in 2000. She served as Director of Operations from 2000 until she was named CEO in 2014. Her leadership has helped sustain safe, supportive spaces and meaningful opportunities for generations of Maui youth.

In 2017, the County of Maui recognized her first 20 years of service by proclaiming Aug. 4 as “Kelly Pearson Day.” At that time, BGCM leaders credited her dedication with helping tens of thousands of young people participate in the organization’s programs.

“Kelly’s leadership has been central to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui for nearly three decades. Through her steady guidance, deep care for our youth, and unwavering commitment to the mission, she has helped shape the organization and extend its impact to generations of young people across Maui County. We are profoundly grateful for her extraordinary service and pleased that she will remain involved as a strategic advisor during this important transition,” said Karey Kapoi, Board Chair.

“Serving Maui’s young people has been the privilege of my life. I am deeply grateful to the staff, Board members, families, volunteers, donors and community partners who have carried this mission forward with me. BGCM is strong because of them, and I leave the CEO role with tremendous confidence in its future,” said Maluo-Pearson.

The BGCM Board has completed a thoughtful search process with support from Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s CEO Search Team and a Board-appointed search committee. The organization expects to announce its next Chief Executive Officer on Sept. 8. The incoming CEO will begin Sept. 15.

The Board has established a continuity plan for the period between CEO terms. Maluo-Pearson’s advisory role will support institutional knowledge transfer, selected strategic priorities and continuity in key relationships.
