Maui County Council will recess Friday meeting in anticipation of severe weather

As Tropical Storm Nolo intensifies and closes in on the Hawaiian Islands, the Maui County Council will postpone its regularly scheduled Friday meeting until Tuesday, according to an announcement from Council Chair Alice Lee.

Friday’s Council meeting will be convened at 9 a.m. with the sole purpose of recessing it to 9 a.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers on the eighth floor of the Kalana O Maui Building in Wailuku.

Tropical Storm Nolo has been strengthening, and forecasters expect it to move closer to the south end of Hawaiʻi Island on Friday. As the storm intensifies into a hurricane, Maui island could see rainfall totals of 5 to 10 inches with maximum amounts of 20 inches are expected. Life-threatening flooding and mudslides are possible, especially in areas of high terrain.
